How To Hydroponics: A Guide to Common Aquacultures

Posted on : 20-12-2009 | By : admin | In : Reference and Education

The field of general hydroponics is not new. Believe it or not you can find evidence of this technique dating back many hundreds of years some of which include the floating gardens of the Aztecs and China, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and you can also discover registers of it in Egyptian hieroglyphics. With newer technology these days though there has been some really unbelievable progress made in this entirely awesome field of agriculture.

Many diverse experimentations have been done by horticulturalists and scientists using various different types of hydroponics in general. This technique is widely demanded in the parts of the world that are not suited for cultivation. This technique was even utilized widely during World War II to help furnish fresh veggies to our troops who were stationed in the non-arable islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Commercial Success

Commercialized growers are getting highly favorable towards the practice of general hydroponics for farming fresh vegetables and produce. It is also becoming a popular method of traditional farmers as well.

The individual state of Israel has been developing really modernized aquacultural technology due to its harsh climate. They market this technology heavily to Nicaragua who utilizes it to produce pepper for selling around the world as well as to the U.S.. One of the biggest aquacultural installations in the world is the state of Arizona, where they dealt 125 million pounds of tomatoes in the year 2005.

General Hydroponics and Its Advantages

This technique of growing fresh produce gives higher yield as compared to dirt based conventional agriculture system. It is a boon for the regions of the earth where ground based crops cannot be grown. This method also eliminates the need of pesticide and insecticide therefore making the land, water, air and food much cleaner and more wholesome.

Nutrients Needs

General aquacultural nutrients change as per the type of plants and they vary rather significantly. This demand of nutrients also alters during the development cycle of every plant. You can use various combinations of development and booming products for each stage of the plant and then you can exactly know the nutrients required for each plant for each cycle of its development.

Foods used in hydroponics are melted in water and are usually in ionic and mineral form. Calcium Nitrate, potassium nitrate, magnesium sulfate and potassium phosphate are the most ordinarily used macro nutrients.

Advances

Productiveness of standard aquacultures is high because there is no pest problem and there is a constant supply of nutrients to the plants. Growth of the plant is limited due to limited light and low carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere. To step-up the yield, carbon dioxide enrichment may be contributed, which involves shooting carbon dioxide in the sealed nursery environment. Return may also be elevated by adding light to make the day lengthier.

Teaching English Conversation in Japan

Posted on : 14-12-2009 | By : admin | In : Reference and Education

1

Although there are 3 basic roads to teaching in Japan most recent graduates use to start their teaching careers, the destination in terms of salaries and working conditions are fairly similar.

Teaching English Conversation in Japan “Eikaiwa” The Most Heavily Traveled Road
“Eikaiwa” refers to the teaching of English conversation and it’s billion dollar industry in Japan. These consist of your large chain schools like ECC, Berlitz, Geos & Aeon. They employ thousands of English teachers all over Japan and can be found in all but the tiniest cities. There are literally thousands of “eikaiwa” schools dotting the country side. All of these schools are attempting to carry out the daunting task of teaching English to the Japanese.

What You Need to Teach
You need a 4 year degree from an University to get a job. (2 year degrees won’t cut it.).) You pretty much also need to speak English at native level fluency. There are some that do find teaching jobs in Japan even though English is not their first language but this is more an exception than a rule.

Although there is no minimum wage, most teachers drag in  250,000 yen a month before taxes.  A typical work week will be 5 days long. Don’t expect weekends off. Saturdays are usually work days. The “eikaiwa” or English conversation business whirs like a motor on Saturadays and Sundays and someone has to teach the students right? This means that most teachers work at least one Saturday or Sunday with another weekday off. Most school’s vacation packages are remarkably similar. 2 weeks of paid vacation and a handful of national holidays off is the norm. Schools differ on which national holidays they observe but the norm is 8 to 10 per year. It’s worth noting that ECC has the best vacation package of the monster chain schools and  arguably the  fewest complaints. To see a comparison chart outlining: working conditions, salaries, perks, accommodations, vacations days and recruitment methods for Geos, ECC, Berlitz and Aeon, click here.

You should expect roughly a 40 hour work week. Each school is different but you can expect roughly 20 to 25 actual teaching hours per week with the rest being office hours. Many schools will subsidize your health insurance or pay for it out right. Typical office hours are filled by grading student work, taking class notes, preparing future lessons or just chatting with students. And (depending on the school) some teachers are expected to hand out school advertisments. No joking here folks, by the end of an average day, you’ll know you worked. All in all when all the hours get counted, your typical teacher works about 40 hours per week.

Huge chain schools, mentioned in the previous paragraph, all have fixed curriculums. This means you’ll be using their in house texts, tapes and other support materials for teaching. For those who don’t have a lot of teaching experience it’s a helpful in reducing stress (there already is quite a bit in adjusting to the culture and learning the language etc.Creative types will probably find it a bit stifiling.

Students  assigned to a typical teacher schedule will probably be of all ages. Literally from 5 to 75 year olds. Some schools have only children as students like Amity English school and Peppy Kids Club. Other  schools like Gaba concentrate on adults.  Because of the competitiveness of this industry, most schools cater to all ages. Most teachers teach children, young professionals and some housewives.

All most all of your large chain schools will provide their respective teachers with some kind of accommodations. This is a very big help as it’s difficult to find accommodations on your own without the help of a Japanese national. Not to mention it’s also quite expensive. Although the type provided will vary expect things to be on the small side. In general, furnishings will be a bit sparce as often they consist of departing teachers belongings.

Origin of the Bomber Jacket

Posted on : 05-11-2009 | By : admin | In : Reference and Education

0

As early as World War I when airplanes had openair compartments, pilots began seeking clothing to preserve warmth and comfort in the harsh temperatures of the open skies. Thus the start of the legendary “Bomber Jacket” or “Flight Jacket” was born.

Over time, there have been many designs from the unofficial and popular early leather bomber jackets of 1915 through 1917 to later official military style bomber jackets such as the 1931 “A2 Bomber Jacket.”

Originally, pilots and crews used whatever they could acquire because no formal or official coat was issued to address the nightmarish cold and weather conditions the pilots encountered in world war I. Weighty long leather jackets quickly became popular with tight snug cuffs around the wrists, tight fit along the waists, and warm collars to help protect from the cold. These are the design principles that are at the core of what today we commonly think of as a flight jacket or bomber jacket.

At the conclusion of WW I, the United States army started the Aviation Clothing Board and began distributing these mighty leather jackets.

By the day WWII broke out, the US Air Corp was distributing the A-2 Bomber Jacket. The Navy and Marine Corp began distributing a similar jacket that became known as the G-1.

As aircraft technology developed throughout the war, planes were now flying at dramatically higher altitudes and radically higher velocities. Temperatures inside these aircraft – often flying with open compartments – plummeted! And their stylish bomber jackets began to give way to a much warmer jacket with a lining of wool or fur. These warmer jackets were popularized by the B3 Bomber Flight Jacket, a large wool and fur lined jacket with large cargo pockets.

Ground personnel and flight crews quickly adopted the pilot’s B3 Bomber Jacket, and the new B7 Flight Jacket became the popular rage.

A decade later saw the high-tech age of the jet with an enclosed compartment and now attention needed to be focused on the warmth, comfort, and safety of the pilots. The B-15 Flight Jacket was designed out of nylon and other synthetic materials to keep the pilot both warm and dry. The light weight and more flexible comfort was also appreciated. As jet technology continued to develop, the MA-1 jacket removed the fur collars because they interfered with the harness of the pilot’s parachute. Today, you can often find both the B-15 and the Leather MA1 Flight Jackets with and without the fur linings.

A functional flight jacket or bomber jacket is considered both a stylish and practical piece of apparel. Appropriate for a evening out on the town or a practical outdoor trip – and should be in every person’s closet.
