I lately had a lovely meal at a friend’s house. After the plates were cleared, she vanished into the kitchen to bring out the dessert. It didn’t take long before I heard the unmistakable whir of one of those countertop coffee maker emergence to life. So in addition to a slice of delectable New York cheesecake each, we were also able to enjoy a couple of delightful homemade espressos. What a fabulous treat!

I love caffeinated brews as much as the next person, so I instantly decided to check out the range of automatic coffee machine at one of my preferred online superstores. I was expecting these things to cost several hundred dollars and perhaps be out of my price range, but was enjoyably surprised to see that my initial estimates were way off the mark. Espresso coffee machines have become considerably cheaper in recent years, to the point where a budget model costs right around $60 now. I can absolutely pay for that!

After reading some reviews of espresso coffee machines, I learned that even the most fundamental models have sufficient features for my purposes. For example, they can make a variety of drinks, including espressos, lattes, cappuccinos, and several coffees, so I’d absolutely be set in that regard. Plus, the cheap espresso coffee machines are also dishwasher safe, have variable steam control so you can froth or steam milk, have a detachable drip tray, and can be set to brew on a timer. Seriously, I don’t know what else I would need besides these things.

From some of the reviews I’ve read, toughness might be an issue with the budget espresso coffee machines. Some people have complained of situations where parts abruptly break off or the machine stops functioning for no evident reason. That wouldn’t be much of a setback if the thing were still under warranty, but I’d detest to end up paying more for upkeep than the product initially cost me. So this might be a case where I should spend a bit more money up front to make sure I get one of the high-quality espresso coffee machines that can be counted on to perform flawlessly for years and years to come.

Even the mid-range versions are relatively inexpensive, in particular after calculating how much I spend on these drinks at Starbucks and other national chains. At the rate I consume these beverages, I could have bought a good machine many times over by now. I think it’s high time I stop putting money in other people’s pockets and start being smarter about my operating cost. Purchasing one of these countertop espresso coffee machines for my own kitchen will pay off soon sufficient, so there’s no reason to wait this purchase any longer.
